MICHIGAN Feldenkrais Classes

April - June 2023 Class Themes

Monday (10:00 am) + Tuesday (5:00 pm)

Best of Feldenkrais Series

Emphasizing material that would fit in a 'best of' or 'top 10' Feldenkrais lesson list, this series will feature simple, but effective movement patterns that showcase the many unique aspects of the Method. Each week will be different in its specific focus. Material will be presented in a way that is accessible to beginners while offering new insights into familiar material for more experienced students.

Wednesday (12:30 pm) + Friday (12:30 pm)

Balance Series

Wednesday and Friday classes will offer different "tracks"

Wednesday classes will offer more challenging material related to improving balance. In walking and running we spend time, however briefly on one leg. The quality of balance while spending time on that leg has big implications for the efficiency of movement and joint health.

This class will involve a deep exploration of what goes in to being able to balance well on one leg. Refining the ability to balance well on one leg goes a long way towards improving the pleasure and reducing the pain(s) associated with walking and running.

Wednesday class may involve standing, kneeling, lying on the stomach and other potentially more challenging positions. Please consider the appropriateness of these positions for your situation.

Friday classes will take a more generalized "head to toe" approach to improving balance. Rather than focusing on single-leg balance we will take a broader view of balance. We will consider the role(s) of feet, knees, hips, spine and head in organizing for better balance. Movement patterns will facilitate self-discovery of the differences between left and right sides of the body - learning to bring more balance to the two sides and learning to work with the inherent differences between the sides. While the standing position may be used to monitor improvements to balance, it will not be used during the movement explorations as it will on Wednesdays.

Friday class will involve less challenging positions - supine, side-lying, sitting and standing.
