Individual Sessions

Functional Integration (FI) lessons use gentle, non-invasive touch and verbal instructions to guide you in a personalized movement process. The lesson will be custom-designed to meet your needs, interest, and intention. Functional Integration is a kind of touch conversation in which you will begin to recognize well-established patterns and develop new movement options. This expanded repertoire of movement allows for more spontanaeity leading to the adoption of alternative patterns of action that involve less pain and more pleasure.

Individual sessions may also be done remotely via Zoom, Facetime or other video-conferencing platform. While the element of hands-on work is removed, you will receive skillful movement analysis and coaching with a selection of Feldenkrais movement patterns that you can do yourself. You will also be provided with materials (audio, video, text) for continued practice between sessions. If you have additional questions about remote Feldenkrais sessions, please email or call.

The benefits of Functional Integration become most apparent when several lessons occur over a short period of time (3 lessons over 2 weeks, for example). Patterns of movement are strongly ingrained and like any other habit, it takes time to change. Learning derived from one lesson needs to be reinforced and enhanced before the learning fades or becomes muddled. If you are able to do both Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement during the same time period, the effects and benefits of both will be magnified further. This is the most efficient way to approach your movement challenges. I am interested in achieving lasting results with you and in providing you with the ability to ultimately achieve results independent from me.

Functional Integration takes place with the student fully clothed (except for shoes). Lessons most often occur with the student lying on a special table, however lessons can also be given in seated or standing positions. Padding, foam rollers and towels are used to provide optimal support and comfort during the lesson and to support the movement pattern being explored. Lessons finish with ideas for integrating the lesson into daily activities and suggestions for at-home activities to re-evoke and reinforce the lesson.
